I'm rivited on this story. Again, part of the appeal is the personal narration style. In this chapter it is strongest when the narrator remarks: "The pain must have been immense, but Seimei did not scream or flinch the way you are flinching now." I was flinching at that very moment. There is a magic in feeling that the narrator is beside me telling the story and even noticing my reactions to it.

the writing is so captivating and addictive and I'm loving it so so much!!! also i know the spider is supposed to be sort of grotesque with EIGHT whole eyes, but she sounds so cute to me 🥹
I lived in Japan for a year, and I really loved their folklore and their ancient version of fairy tales. Their stories were often creepy but somehow also lovely. I wanted to write something like that.
Thank you for sharing! I have read some amazing Japanese fairy tales, such as Urashimataro and the Turtle, The Sparrow with the Slit Tongue, The Cat’s Elopement. They do read very differently than Grimm or Andersen.
